Welcome to Martuni
Martuni is situated in the Gegharkunik region of Armenia, on the southern shores of the Lake Sevan, on the foot of the Geghama and Vardenis mountain ranges. The distance from the capital, Yerevan, is 130km and the roads are asphalted and renovated. There are minibuses from Yerevan to Martuni and from Martuni to Yerevan each day, every 30 minutes; and the ride lasts about 1.5hrs.

Martuni is 1,900-3,000m above sea level and the highest mountains in the region are Astghunk (1347m) and Armaghan (2830m). Martuni is also considered the most densely populated region in Armenia given its 17 rural communities.

Numerous tombs and cyclopean fortresses can be found in this region and in the areas surrounding it: Evidence that Martuni has been inhabited since the Urartu kingdom, one of the most ancient Armenian kingdoms. The area has a moderately cold climate and the temperature varies by 5-10°C from the low-lands to the higher points. The coldest months are January and February, but the warmest month is August when the temperature rises to +37°C.
